Geographical position and origins

Situated in the Province of Teramo, the city of Campli has about less than 8.000 inhabitants. DAS GEBIET of Campli is placed between the Province of Ascoli Piceno and the Province of Teramo. The city has very ancient origins, proved also by the necropolis found nearby, in Campovalano.

History Traces

Campovalano with its necropolis dating from late Bronze Age, testify the ancien origins of the area.

Other history traces may be found also related to the Middle Ages, Campli is first mentioned as a town in 894 in a legal document concerning a land cession.

Places to visit

Don't miss "La Scala Santa" (The Sacred Step) , built in 1776 on the occasion of the Jubilee. There are 28 steps made of olive wood, which the followers climbed on their knees to get absolution of sins, the same as happened at "Scala Santa" (The Sacred Step) from Rome.

You should also visit "Il Palazzo Farnese", a rare and awesome example of the medieval architecture. The palace dates from 1400, but an inscription on the façade indicated 1520, year of a major restauration process. It is worth seeing also "Casa del Medico" and "Casa dello Speziale", both dating from the Middle Ages.
